Who remembers the trailer that came out in July of last year? As for the film Alpha, I was fortunately able to catch it after hearing great buzz. It somehow garnered hype claiming, “It’s heartbreaking, it’s moving beyond belief.” Well dear readers, as much praise I have seen for this movie, Alpha was simply boring and let me explain why.

To start very positive, my impression of the movie was the creation of an original interface for the tribe’s language, and its english free nature surely brings in people form all age sets trying to appreciate children with pure story-telling without distractions. Not only movie wise, but also cinematically it performed exceptionally such as in Keda’s episodes that were overflowing with grace like a buffalo gracefully tossing over it. There is no question Oshkosh would top best silhouettes shows during this year where panna cotta cheese owes contributes about one third though melts completely unlike buffalo shot with again some 25 minutes long unseeable blizzard nudity mark on breathtaking pictures of shy night stars to soothe heavy eye skins.Unfortunately, the pros are now neatly packed away and it is time to unpack the cons. Out of all aspects of the movie I very much enjoyed its cinematography, however I must say this CGI was horrific. There is a scene where a large group of wolves are running around a fairly large tree and I swear it looked like whoever did the effects worked for 20 minutes George “Eh, whatever” and called it a day. Also, in the latter part of the movie they have what could be considered as a big reveal which would serve well as an ending to the movie. But with their utter reliance on CGI they turn what could be a super cool and really heartwarming moment into something that is incredibly cringe-worthy.

Now, let’s move on to the characters. There aren’t a lot of characters in the movie, which is a positive thing. With few characters, it’d be reasonable to expect at least one would be likable or redeemable—well, you’d be wrong. Every character falls into cliché tropes (Protagonist’s Father as the “Strong Chief” who is always supportive) or are deeply dislikable like Keda, the protagonist of this film. Kodi Smit-McPhee tries his best with the role, but there’s no way to dress up such dull writing about his character. Also, if you check IMDB for this movie, it claims Morgan Freeman narrates it; however, he does not utter a single word in the American version. That is simply unforgivable!

This brings us to my concluding point about the film – and while this may seem premature for a last take, don’t panic because I have a lot to say here! In Alpha, there is little defence for the story—they bluntly miss all narrative chances provided by dog’s existence alongside humans. It tells of how ‘man and dog’ formed an everlasting friendship; obviously dogs can’t speak human languages so they are obliged to rely on visuals (which I believe through and through is storytelling at its best!). You can refer to Alien Vs… (the entirety)

Predator to see this in action) However, I only find it impressive if it’s effective and in Alpha, it really isn’t.

To sum up, the cringe-worthy communication can be described as some of the most elementary jokes ever told and attempts at portraying serious moments to evoke emotion. The humor attempts to make light of situations that are mundane to begin with, while Alpha provides attempts at dramatizing events that miss the mark entirely. Much like how animated features attempt heartfelt messages such as “The Good Dinosaur,” Alpha suffers from a lack of genuine connection. It becomes an overly simplistic “boy meets dog” narrative set during prehistoric times – which sounds great in concept but struggles because of poor execution due to writing and unappealing characters.

In the beginning of the movie, there is a buffalo stampede that serves as a flashback to before the hunting trip, and I want to start by explaining how flashbacks serve to make characters relatable. In Alpha, for example, during the opening sequence where it tries to tell you a story there’s really no reason to care about what’s happening because we don’t know who these people are. Characters Flashbacks In the movie, rely overly on cliches without fleshing out any of their characters like in this example of how they try to show contrast but do caricatures instead: Instead of portraying complexity through character development in response to overcoming obstacles… well you can guess . What ends up happening is repetition so toward the middle and near end when they try stitching together bits from different parts audiences naturally zone out into autopilot mode because real life requires less effort than keeping still while watching this simply awful film. This is my review of Alpha. I’m aware that many dog owners and others are expressing enthusiasm for the movie’s dog-centric elements. It’s important to note that having a dog didn’t enhance my enjoyment of the film. It’s similar to how owning a puppet did not make me appreciate The Happytime Murders or having a computer didn’t make me enjoy Searching. I like Searching because it’s a great movie and I don’t like Happytime because it isn’t good. In conclusion, this year has offered me an array of movies to witness, but regretfully, Alpha ranks among the bottom tier alongside Netflix originals.
